"Know the dentist, bought the book" according to Randolph F. Walls. We know the main contributor and use his services for our 500 horses. Each horse owner should know how to remedy simple problems and when to call the dentist. Several of our horses were pronounced "dying, no matter what you do" by the University Large Animal Clinic, but attention to their teeth saved each of them. Solely on the strength of the contributor we strongly recommend this manual to all horse owners.. Excellent practical reference This book gives a great practical foundation for horse floating in a vet practice. The illustrations provide a very thorough guide to various pathologic dental conditions and their remedies. Equipment is also discussed in detail. If you can only afford one book on equine dentistry, I would recommend this one. Best on the "How-To's".. Easy information for new Vet Tech! Memum Purchased for my granddaughter who is a Vet Tech! She was thrilled with it and checks it frequently! Nice gift! Great looking book.
This practical field guide of common dental procedures helps practitioners develop a workable understanding of the field of dentistry. The effect of dental health on a horse's overall well-being and performance, as well as the positive financial impact that dental procedures can bring to a practice, has made dentistry a growing area in equine medicine. From basic concepts to advanced techniques, Manual of Equine Dentistry provides practical, procedural information for integrating dentistry into equine practice. An important introductory chapter discusses key points to consider when adding dental care procedures to the veterinarian's practice.Chapters progress logically from basic concepts to more advanced techniques in sequential order.Discussions on marketing, record-keeping, and purchasing and maintaining equipment enhance the manual's applicability to everyday practice.Chapters on safety, assessment, basic procedures, regular maintenance, extractions, and special procedures cover all aspects of equine dentistry.Appendices on dental anatomy and sources for instruments and equipment serve as valuable reference aids.Well-illustrated discussions of procedures feature both photos and line drawings.A strong emphasis on health maintenance and preventive care aligns the veterinarian's practice with long-term dental health.
