"Just OK" according to Mrs. Fitz. I wanted to like this book way more than I did. While I found the plotline interesting, the two main characters (Mom & Julie) were not very sympathetic or likable. That made it hard for me to care what happened to them. Dad & the other daughter's secondary characters were not really fleshed out very much. Toward the end the story got sort of muddled & I had to go back and re-read parts to figure out who was doing what to whom.Just an OK read for me, I'm sorry to say.. "I really went in prepared to like it, but no" according to SherriLee. I live in Houston and there are very few good mysteries set here so I was excited to find this one with some great reviews. This is approached in a manner which is not exploitive nor sensationalized; we sympathize with the pragmatic choices these characters make because these moments of violence are described in a straightforward and stark manner. It's easy to understand how a person could unravel under these circumstances,

A young woman who appears to be Julie is finally, miraculously, home safe. She cannot avoid them. Thirteen-year-old Julie Whitaker was kidnapped from her bedroom in the middle of the night, witnessed only by her younger sister. And then one night: the doorbell rings.   Propulsive and suspenseful, Good as Gone will appeal to fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, and keep readers guessing until the final pages.
