Big disappointment!! If you were looking for arrangements of Johnny Smith's solo guitar work, you will not find it here, This book comprises transcriptions of mostly single-note solos played over chords to be comped by a second musician. As such, the book's title is grossly misleading, if not a complete misnomer. If you want to find careful transcriptions of Johnny Smith's solo guitar arrangements (arrangements for a solo guitar) with close chordal harmonies, you may well have to c. Great, great, great! Boris de Vries Johnny Smith was a true innovator of the instrument in the 1950's and this book written by Steve Silverman provides you with excellent insight into his playing. These are plain transcriptions of his recorded solos. You should get the respective recordings in order to use this book effectively. No analysis provided, standard notation only, no tabs.. JS solo's. SRJ Since the world seems to have overlooked this bona fide jazz genius. I want to thank the author for breaching the walls of that citadel known as Johnny Smith. While consisting primarily solo breaks in standard notation (no tab), it is a gem none the less. Undoubtedly, a work of love and respect.
