William P. Payne said Missionary Biography. Art McPhee's "Road to Delhi" is an absorbing read--so much so, I literally could not put it down. It effortlessly drew me into the life of an extraordinary missionary to India in the last decades of British rule and early years of the new nation. Bishop J. Waskom Pickett's prickly encounters with Gandhi, close friendship with Nehru and most of India's early leaders, meetings with two U. S. Presidents in behalf of India, and heroic efforts to save thousands of lives during the communal bloodshed following Independence are part of that story. The bishop's missiological discoveries and innovations, initiatives in establishing health . I was amazed to learn of God's working and leading in Pickett's Ted Moon A very readable biography of an extraordinary man God used to touch the land of India. It was my privilege to grow up in India and see God working in the ministry of my father. I often heard of men such as J. Waskom Pickett and E. Stanley Jones. While in India, I met both men when I was in high school, not realizing the incredible impact they were having in India. After reading McFee's The Road to India, I was amazed to learn of God's working and leading in Pickett's life. This book is very engaging and includes fascinating stories and details of a life well lived. He touched the lives of many and was friends with Nehru and Gandhi
